POLICE OFFICER

SALARY GRADE 14        SALARY RANGE            $33,472 - $50,208

The Police Department is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as Police Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Works on rotating shifts performing patrols, traffic control, investigation and first aid at accidents;
• Investigation and arrest of persons involved in criminal activities;

• Expected to handle difficult and emergency situations;

• Maintain availability by radio and/or telephone for consultation on major emergencies;

• Carry out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and Town laws and ordinances;

• Patrols Town streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law, control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate crimes involving misdemeanors, felonies, and other law violations;

• Prepare a variety of reports and records including officer’s Daily Log, reports of investigation, field interrogation report, alcohol reports, influence reports, bad check forms, vehicle impoundment forms, traffic hazard reports, etc;

• All other functions of law enforcement;

Minimum Qualifications: 

• High school diploma or GED equivalent;

• 21 years of age or older at the time of hire;

• Valid NC driver license with acceptable driving record;

• No felony convictions and/or disqualifying misdemeanors;

• Successful completion of NC Basic Law Enforcement Training prior to hire date;
