History of Spring Lake
Police Department
In 1951 the Town of Spring Lake was incorporated and Thomas McLamb was sworn
in as the first Police Chief. His salary was $100.00 per month and he received
a commission for each arrest and conviction. Chief McLamb was paid to use his
personal vehicle on patrol until the Town was able to purchase a vehicle.
In 1967 the Spring Lake Police Department had a budget of $13,520.00 and was
comprised of the Chief, 2 patrolmen and 1 patrol vehicle.
Today the Spring Lake Police Department is comprised of 26 dedicated, hardworking
individuals. There are twenty sworn officers who work in Patrol and in Detectives
and six non-sworn individuals who work in Records, Crime Analyst, Communications
and Animal Control that support this group.
