September 2010 Employees of the Month
Police Division:
Billy Tharpe

It was noted that Sgt. Tharpe is a diligent employee who has worked numerous hours to establish an inventory of the Town of Spring Lake Police Department’s evidence. Sgt Tharpe has taken immeasurable initiative to ensure that the inventory of over 2,000 pieces of evidence was accurately accounted for. This project included the inventorying of each item and manually logging the items into a computer program. Sgt. Tharpe willingly logged the evidence inventory into the available computer program with full knowledge that, in the next few months, there may be a possibility that each item will have to be manually re-entered with the implementation of a new software program. Beyond the initial inventory of evidence, Sgt. Tharpe worked diligently to research evidence pieces to determine if the item should be forwarded to another agency, an owner, or be disposed of in accordance with law. The task that Sgt. Tharpe was given was to say the least a huge undertaking and he did not falter in his display of dedication to the Spring Lake Police Department. Sergeant Billy Tharpe is commended for his generous commitment of time and support to the continuing endeavors of the Police Department to better serve the citizens of the Town of Spring Lake. Because of his unfaltering dedication to the Town and its citizens, Sergeant Tharpe was selected as Employee of the Month, September 2010.
Administration Division:
Doris Snider

It is noted that Doris Snider is a long standing employee who provides a critical service to the aging population of the Town of Spring Lake. Ms. Snider is highly involved with the seniors in the community and she consistently goes above and beyond her duties to assist with an individual’s personal or professional matter. Recently, Ms. Snider implemented the first ever “Spring Lake 5th Friday Celebration.” The theme for the event was a 50’s style dance event. The participants enjoyed music, food, and fun. This program was created to allow the senior citizens in our community a venue to develop social relationships with others. The event was a tremendous success and a testament to Ms. Snider’s dedication to the senior citizens in our community. Because of the selfless displays of servitude and the genuine acts of concern to the aging citizens of our community, she was selected as Employee of the Month, September 2010.
Public Works Division:
Richard Mendez

It was noted that Richard Mendez is an employee who assists in duties that are well outside of his normal responsibilities. If Mr. Mendez is aware that tasks have not been completed, he will perform the tasks without pause. More often than not, he is not asked to perform these tasks nor are the tasks his direct responsibility. Recently, Mr. Mendez realized that a lift station had not been checked prior to the beginning of the weekend. He took it upon himself to check the station. This action that some may deem simple, saved the Town the overtime expense that would have been incurred by another employee being called out to check the station over the weekend. Richard Mendez is commended for his exceptional performance and devoted service to the Town of Spring Lake. Because he consistently performs duties and implements procedures to ensure that undue expenses are not incurred by the Town and because he is deemed an asset to the Town of Spring Lake, Richard Mendez was selected as Employee of the Month, September 2010.
